How to Save Your Money on Baby Formula

Baby formula seems to be one of the more expensive baby products, costing upwards of $25 per large canister. With the average infant eating every few hours, it isn’t hard to see that canister dwindle down in no time. But while the cost of baby formula is pricey, the good news is there are some ways to soften the blow on your budget. Take a look below at 5 ways to save money on baby formula and still get the product you need for less. Here is how to get started.

Ways to Save Money on Baby Formula

1. Use Amazon Subscribe and save to save on baby formula

When you use Amazon’s free Subscribe and Save program, you get the formula you need shipped right to your door. You will save about 15% off the cost of the formula, as well as enjoy free shipping which saves you time and gas. You get to choose the delivery schedule, and you can cancel without penalty at anytime. Choose from a wide variety of container sizes, formulas, and brands as well.

2. Write to your favorite companies.

Write an email to your favorite formula brands (just use the contact feature on their webpage) to let them know you are brand loyal to their product. Ask if any samples or savings are available at this time. Chances are they will be happy to send you some so you can continue to enjoy their product but for less. While you are on the website, check for any printable coupons or rebates that might be available as well.

3. Talk to your pediatrician.

I was amazed when I saw how generous formula brands are with pediatrician’s offices. They send samples and high value coupons often with the intention of the office handing them out to patients. Often times these items end up collecting dust in a closet, so be sure to ask your doctor or nurse if any samples or coupons are available. They are happy to unload them.

4. Sign up for formula checks.

Formula checks are the high value coupons major brands such as Enfamil and Similac offer. They can be as much as $10 each, which really saves you a chunk of change. By signing up for promotions on the Enfamil and Similac websites, you can get these savings sent right to your door. They also send full size samples at times as well as other cool freebies!

5. Consider the store brand.

There are quite a few generic brands of baby formula that are still high quality, safe, and tasty for baby. Talk to your pediatrician to see if one of these off brands is right for you, as you can easily save 20%. Most store brands also come with a money back promise, so if you end up not liking it you are free to return it and get your money back.

If baby formula is on your shopping list, keep these tips in mind so you can save off your next purchase!

If you’re baby has a milk allergy and has to be on a special formula like Nutramigen or Alimentum, talk to your pediatrician about getting a prescription for it. My daughter had to be on Nutramigen and Kaiser covered it 100%. I didn’t even have to pay a co-pay and they gave me plenty so that I never ran out. I was even able to send extra cans with her to daycare and still have plenty at home. You can also call your insurance company directly to see if they will cover it with an RX.

For my second child, I asked the nurse at the pediatrician’s office on every visit if she had some extra samples. She gave me four cans each time I asked, no problems. They get it for free and seem happy to share when I specifically asked for it. Wish I had done that with the first one!
