Bosch 800 Series Dishwasher Buying Guide – Factors to Consider
Our reviews only cover a few of the many Bosch 800 Series dishwashers. We chose the dishwashers above because they all offer lots of great features and benefits.
It can be tricky to know what Bosch 800 series dishwasher is right for your family. But don’t worry, we’re here to help! Consider the following factors when shopping for your new Bosch 800 Series dishwasher:
Price
The Bosch 800 series dishwashers vary in price, depending on what features & technology they offer. You can spend as little as a few hundred dollars to well over $1000. So set a realistic budget and then eliminate the models you can’t afford.
Model Type
There are different types of dishwashers in the 800 series like built-in dishwashers and free-standing models. Each model type has its benefits and downsides. This is why you should explore the entire range of dishwashers in the series. You can read about the pros and cons of each model type and choose from there.
Size
When you’re shopping for a new dishwasher, you have to know where you’re going to put it and how much space is available in that spot. There are several different sizes of dishwashers in the 800 series. Some are 24 inches wide while others are 18 inches in diameter. Plus, some models are taller than others. This means that you need to get that tape measure out to find out exactly how much space you have to work with.
Capacity
Of course, size matters in dishwashers. If you have a small family, you can choose a smaller dishwasher with an 8 or 10 place setting capacity. But if your family is large and you tend to entertain a lot, you’ll need a bigger model that can accommodate 16 place settings or more.
Energy Saving Considerations
If you’re like most consumers, you want to buy an energy-saving dishwasher. The ENERGY STAR certified dishwashers in the Bosch 800 series are designed to save you energy dollars. Many of the machines in this series come with energy-saving features like water-saving settings, a delay-start option and lots more.
Features & Technology
Would you like a dishwasher that’s loaded with all the latest features and Bosch’s most recent technology? Then you should consider one of the more costly models that has everything you could possibly ever want. The Bosch 800 Series SHEM78Z55N would be a top choice. This machine does everything but load the dirty dishes for you. It’s amazing so check it out!

Hello
We bought one of these dishwashers in April. It took 8 hours to install because it DOES NOT fit into a standard 34 inch opening- although the Jenn-Aire and LG had no problem in or out. This is due to the solid plastic (not metal like real dishwashers use) bottom structure- it requires an absolutely flat surface. We had to drill and grind the concrete and tile to get it into the opening. Our previous dishwashers (LG- 14 years, and Jenn-Aire, 13 years) ran well and quietly until they just gave up. The Bosch is:
1) noisier- I measured 54-55dB at 1meter with my calibrated instruments- stand measuring conditions. 10dB means 10 times louder than advertised.
2) the levelers are soft plastic- just deform rather than raise or lower. The LG and Jenn-Aire use steel rods with locking nuts.
2) Does not clean dishes unless we wash them first. Our water is softened and filtered. We use Finish tablets and anti-spotting solution.
3) Rarely cleans silverware unless it is perfectly cleaned by hand.
4) Does not clean glasses if they are spanning the water feed bar in the upper part of the washer.
5) Does not start when we push the buttons. My wife can get it in 3 to 4 tries, I give up after 5.
6) the anti-spotting solution cup is a ridiculous design- the solution dribbles all over the door inner panel when trying to fill it, and there is not a functioning fill indicator like the LG units have.
7) The bottom rack always derails- again due to bad design. This did not happen in the LG or the Jenn-Aire units.
This poor performance is not an isolated case- we have a friend in Massachusetts that bought one recently- she has the same problems. A friend in Ohio just bought one- they are returning it to the dealer for a real dishwasher. A friend in Colorado was given one after his old Bosch unit was recalled for being a fire-hazard. His new unit has the same problems as ours.
I finally became frustrated today when the silverware was dirty after a cycle. See the images- much of the grate area is blocked by casting flash which prevents water from getting to the silverware from below. This is just lousy quality control (if there is any). For a $5.00 part (maybe less) the entire $1300 dishwasher is compromised. Also, the grates in the LG were much more open than the Bosch, so it is poor design to begin with (poor English sentence structure, sorry). *** Note- pictures would not load into this comment box.
So, our new solution is to wash the dishes in the sink, rinse, and put them in the dishwasher racks to air dry. Costs less electricity and we know the dishes are clean.
You should run a survey of users to get real data instead of just laboratory results.
