User reviews of the Bosch 500 series of dishwashers are overwhelmingly positive. People love these dishwashers that clean dishes well and come with lots of amazing features and cutting-edge technology. These dishwashers are made to run whisper-quiet. They’re so quiet in fact, that Bosch has added a small red light that shines on the floor when the machines are running

Below is our Bosch 500 series dishwasher review and buying guide. This info will help guide you through the labyrinth of the many different models. Here’s the cream of the crop in this awesome series of dishwashers by Bosch.

Bosch SHP865ZD5N 500 Series 24” Dishwasher w/ Bar Handle

Like all dishwashers in the 500 series, the SHP865ZD5N offers five wash cycles. This 24-inch wide machine has a built-in pocket handle and a 16 place setting capacity. It also has a flexible and convenient third rack for when you have lots of dishes to wash.

This fully integrated, built-in dishwasher has Bosch’s FlexSpace technology. This consists of the tines folding back to fit large pots and pans. It also has intelligent sensors built-in that scan and checks the washing progress. During this cycle that’s called PrecisionWash, powerful spray arms get to work targeting every dish in the machine.

The SHP865ZD5N has an attractive stainless steel finish on the outside and offers lots of great features on the inside. It has leak protection, an extra-dry option, and ENERGY STAR certification. This certification tells you that this machine cuts back on water consumption to save you energy dollars.

Like all dishwashers in the 500 series, the SHP865ZD5N has Bosch’s AutoAir feature. This feature releases the door at the end of the cycle to let moisture escape and fresh air in.

Pros:

  • Beautiful sleek design
  • Intuitive button controls
  • Super quiet
  • Loading flexibility
  • Fold-down tines for easy loading
  • ENERGY STAR certified

Cons:

  • Doesn’t always dry dishes completely

Bosch SHPM65W56N 24” 500 Series Dishwasher – Black

If you’re in the market for a handsome, black dishwasher that’s fully integrated, the SHPM65W56N series 500 dishwasher is a very capable machine. This one is 24 inches wide and features a pocket handle for added discretion. The spacious stainless steel tub interior can hold 16 place settings.

This machine features Bosch’s AquaSensor technology. This technology uses an optical measuring device to determine the cleanliness of the rinse water. This handy feature will let you know whether or not you’re loading the machine properly. We like this feature because many people don’t know how to best load their dishwashers.

Some people even blame their machines for being faulty when dishes don’t come out clean. In many of these cases, the fault lies with the user that doesn’t load the machine correctly.

The Bosch SHPM65W56N gets a big thumbs up from us for its drying capability. In proven tests, this model completely dries non-plastic dishes every single time. We also like how quiet this dishwasher runs. It features the brand’s SoundReduction system that makes it so quiet you wouldn’t know it’s running if it weren’t for the little red light that tells you it’s on.

This 24’ black dishwasher has adjustable feet. This feature is helpful when placing it on an uneven floor. It also carries ENERGY STAR certification and has fold-down tines. The SHPM65W56N also comes with Bosch’s leak protection feature that shuts the dishwasher off if a leak is detected.

Pros:

  • Sleek, low-profile 24” design
  • Washes and dries very well
  • Whisper quiet
  • Adjustable feet

Cons:

  • Each cycle takes over two hours to complete
  • No child-proof lock

Bosch SHP865WD6N 500 Series Built-In Fully Integrated Dishwasher in Black

This is another top-selling black model in the 500 series that’s a popular choice among consumers. This is a 24-inch machine with a 16 place setting capacity.

The SHP865WD6N dishwasher offers the brand’s Rackmatic system that allows you to adjust the top rack in one step, even when it’s loaded. The top rack also adjusts to three different heights and allows for multiple rack positions. This sleek pocket-handle dishwasher makes it easy to fit in your big pots and pans with its FlexSpace tines that fold back.

This is a quiet running machine that offers 30 percent more loading capacity with its flexible third rack. The SHP865WD6N offers a Half Load option. This reduces cycle time and water consumption when you only have a few dishes to wash. This feature works best for lightly-soiled dishes.  Don’t expect it to clean dishes that are heavily soiled because it’s not designed for that type of load.

This 500 series dishwasher has an ExtraShine option. You can use this feature in combination with a wash cycle to ensure your dishes come out very clean and shiny. It works by raising the temperature and extending the drying time.

This ENERGY STAR certified dishwasher does a great job of getting dishes clean and dry. It has many features and advanced technology to make it a top choice for any family.

Pros:

  • Nice-looking black finish with discreet handle
  • Quiet running machine
  • Half load option
  • ExtraShine feature
  • Leak protection & ENERGY STAR certified

Cons:

  • Dishes don’t always come out completely dry
  • Not as whisper-quiet as other models in 500 series

Bosch SHXM65W55N 24” 500 Series Stainless Steel Dishwasher

The SHXM65W55N 500 series dishwasher is a built-in, fully integrated model in stainless steel. This machine has a bar-style handle and room for 16 place settings. It’s a quiet-running dishwasher with a flexible third rack.

This model has Bosch’s NSFSanitize feature that’s found on many of the more costly 800 series machines. This runs the machine at a higher temperature to clean and sanitize your dishes. Bosch claims (and it’s been confirmed) that this feature eliminates 99.0 percent of bacteria.

The SHXM65W55N comes with a long silverware basket for those big loads of silverware many families have. It also has Bosch’s AquaSense feature that monitors the cleanliness of the rinse water.

This 500 series model offers leak protection and ENERGY STAR certification.  It also has Bosch’s EcoSense feature. This automatically adjusts the length of the washing cycle based on how dirty your dishes are and the temperature of the incoming water.

Pros:

  • Super quiet
  • Cleans & sanitizes dishes
  • EcoSense feature for saving energy costs
  • Roomy interior with fold-down tines on racks

Cons:

  • Dishes often come out wet
  • Tines on the bottom rack could be angled better to accommodate pots & pans

Bosch 500 Series Dishwasher Buying Guide – Picking Your Machine

Due to space restraints, we couldn’t review all the dishwashers in Bosch’s 500 series. However, we did review three of the top models that are highly rated by consumers.

You’ll have to explore the entire series to see what other models are available. In the meantime, here are some factors to consider when deciding what 500 Series dishwasher is right for you.

Money

Yes, it’s always about money when you’re planning on investing in any appliance, including a new Bosch dishwasher. Generally speaking, the 500 series models run anywhere from $800 to $900.

The more costly models have extra features like Bosch’s HalfLoad option and its ExtraShine technology. Decide how much you can realistically spend then look for 500 series machines that fit your budget.

Design Preferences & Space

All dishwashers in the 500 series are available in stainless steel, white, or black. You can choose from fully-integrated built-in models to stand-alone machines that are 18 or 24 inches wide.

Consider your kitchen’s decor and the color of your existing appliances when choosing a dishwasher. Take the time to carefully measure the space you have available for your new dishwasher. This way, you’ll be able to pick a machine that perfectly fits in.

Features You Need

It’s important to think about what features you can live without and which are ‘must-haves” for you. If you just want a great dishwasher with basic functions, then you’ll likely be happy with a model on the low end of the 500 series’ price scale.

If having the latest technology and most updated features are important, look at the more costly dishwashers in Bosch’s 500 series. These machines have all the bells and whistles. For instance, these most costly models offer fast drying options, half-load options, water & energy-saving technology and more.

Conclusion

All in all, the 500 series of dishwashers in Bosch’s lineup are great machines. They’re known for their whisper-quiet operation and ability to thoroughly wash dishes, including heavily soiled plates, glasses, pots & pans, etc.

The 500 series dishwashers from Bosch cost $800 to $900, depending on what features and technologies you choose. Once you’ve explored the models in this series, decide which model ticks the most boxes for you.

Remember that a new Bosch dishwasher is designed to provide you with many years of service. Therefore, be sure you choose a model you’re confident you’ll always be happy with.
